- Meaning: a collection of pus in a cavity

- Example: 1. Acute abscess in the kidney.

2. The abscess should be freely opened and drained.

3. The accident caused an internal abscess which was never cured.

4. The only way for an abscess to evacuate itself is on to the surface of the body.

5. Abscess of the Gall-bladder gives rise to a painful and tender swelling, and it becomes unbearable at times.
